I think it wasn’t until I was in high school that it really dawned on me that the world behind the Iron Curtain actually existed in color, and not in the sepia and greyscale tones of my Social Studies textbooks.  These days, costume dramas fetishizing the past let people think they know what certain eras look like, but it’s still a surprise to see the real things tumble out onto the floor… 20150109-001923.jpg
