I’m not entirely sure which contestant will get to crown herself the Queen of Doom in this week’s drama; what I am sure is that things will depress the hell out of me.

I was better off with the mantids, really. When they bite each other’s heads off, it’s at least in the service of the next generation.  Here, not so much.

Just out for my late morning amble….

It hadn’t occurred to me that mantids only immobilized their victims after capture. I thought there was some quick, venomous bite involved… But no: this one just grabbed a bumblebee on a nearby aster flower, nipped off its wings, and began chowing down. If a bee limb flailed too much, that, too, was clipped, and dining resumed.

…there’s a public access to the water, in between several owned properties.  And along the rocky shoreline, I was able to find some fossilized corals and a few younger [relatively] bits of the past.

The orange-ness of the rust isn’t well-captured here.  The blue-greys of the aged metal don’t come through quite right, either.  But you get the idea, I hope…

…but I must say, their bandages have been very good to my wounded knees.  From raw weeping dermis to nice fresh pink skin in under two weeks.
