I’m interested in knowing what other careful readers think of this analysis — Sandy, over at Junkfood Science, takes a closer look at the recent claims that a long-term study “showed” that even one drink of alcohol per week could raise a woman’s cancer risk.  That claim didn’t fit with the other data I knew about, and it certainly didn’t fly well with her.

Could it really be “authorities” “not wanting to send the wrong message about drinking”?  What would that “wrong message” be? Is the problem that people have so much invested in “Alcohol is always bad” that anything that hints it might be part of a healthy person’s diet cannot be borne?
